Jellyfish Stings
Jellyfish stings can be harmless or fatal. Most jellyfish stings from jellyfish found on beaches are not severe. However, these jellyfish stings can cause immediate and intense burning pain and can last several hours. The sting wound can swell up and last 1 or 2 weeks. Itchy rashes may develop 1 to 4 weeks after the jellyfish sting. If the person is allergic, the sting can have severe consequences

Jellyfish sting treatment and things to remember about jellyfish sting treatment:
- The rescuers performing jellyfish sting treatment must be protected against jellyfish stings by wearing protective clothing and gloves. If the rescuers will rescue the jellyfish sting victims, they themselves must be protected.

If the jellyfish sting victim is still in water, the jellyfish sting treatment rescuers must remove the victim out of water.
The jellyfish sting treatment rescuers must use protective gloves and forceps, remove any tentacles that are still in contact with the jellyfish sting victim to avoid further spread of poison. If there are no protective gloves, use a stick or some other objects. Lift the tentacles off the skin to avoid further jellyfish stings.
Rinse the jellyfish sting area of the victim with salt water/ ocean water. If there is no salt water, don't rinse at all. It is important to not rinse the jellyfish sting with fresh water because it will worsen the wound. Also, do not scrub the wound.
